A Report on Acai Antioxidant Properties

Acai is a fruit that is harvested from a Brazilian palm trea within the Amazon region. This tropical food consists of a variety of antioxidant properties, which are agents that fight against free radicals that cause cancer.

Antioxidant Property Research Summary

Most of the acai antioxidant groups are of the polyphenol variety, which are built of multiple units per molecule. One of the most active polyphenol groups present in this fruit are anthocyanins, which are a type of flavanoid (a type of polyphenol antidants). These are what gives the acai berry its purplish color.

Cyandin 3-glucoside and cyanidin 3-rutinoside are three of the primary anthocyanin acai antioxidant properties present in this fruit. Levels of anthocyanins in this fruit have been tested as it has been prepared in freeze-dried and skin powder forms. The total content is about 319mg per 100 grams.

In addition, 12 additional flavonoid-like compounds are a;so found in this fruit, according to fairly recent research conducted. These include homoorientin, orientin, taxifolin deoxyhexose, isovitexin and scoparin.

Another type of polyphenol group called proanthocyanidins have also been found within this fruit. The content level is measured at 1,289 mg per 100 grams. Resveretrol has also been found within it in trace amounts.

Antioxidant Strength Test Results Summary

ORAC (oxygen radical absorbance capacity) strength study has been conducted on this fruit. Acai antioxidant properties are measured to be at least 10 times stronger than cranberries or blueberries (lowbush variety).

This fruit proved to be most effective against peroxyl radical, superoxide, and peroxynitrate. However, one precaution is that it is not as effective against the hydroxyl radical.

Additionally, acai antioxidant effectiveness tests indicated that this fruit in a particular freeze-dried pulp form is at least mildly capable of inhibiting Cyclooxygenase enzymes COX-1 and COX-2. These enzymes are responsible for inflammation, so this fruit is reported to at least have some benefit for reduction of acute or chronic inflammation.

Parts of acai is said to be able to counteract HL-60 Leukemia activity in vitro (in test tube/outside not in the environment of a living organism). Acai antioxidant properties are also known to have an affect on the gastrointestinal system as well.

The Future of Acai

Scientists are still studying the affects of this fruit every single day. Updates on their findings are reported on a regular basis. This fruit has become more and more popular throughout the world, and its roots include those of medicinal practices in the Amazon thousands of years ago.

People already are benefiting from the antioxidant properties of this fruit every single day. This particular fruit is said to help prevent cancer of the breast, lungs, stomach, and other areas of the body.

Moreover, people are reporting feeling rejuvenated and also have experienced the result of improved skin condition, increased stamina, and enhanced sexual health. People use this fruit as a preventative and maintenance source.

Some forms of this fruit are said to be more effective than others. So far it is the freeze-dried pulp that is reported to have the most benefits to people.

I've got a curvy figure and I've always looked best with long, feminine hairstyles. Short hair makes me look ungainly and butch. Looking around at women around me, I think the same holds true for everyone: if you're heavier, grow your hair and keep it feminine because it accentuates the positives in your bodyshape. - Submitted by Millie
