Although the different antibiotics acts in different ways but the most common act is to reduce the number of bacteria in and around follicle. The antibiotics also help in reducing the free fatty acids that is responsible for itching. Tetracycline is the most common antibiotic used for treating acne. It is available in tablet, ointment and solution. The medicine stops the growth of bacteria produced on the skin caused by acne or any cut mark, wound or burn. The medicine is generally recommended twice a day until you see complete recovery from acne. The medicine is more effective if taken empty stomach. The medicine should be taken as prescribed by your doctor or medical health professional and should complete the course. The medicine should not be used if you are allergic to tetracycline or any of its component, pregnant or trying to become pregnant or nursing mother. Erythromycin is another commonly used antibiotic used for acne. It is very useful for skin infections and the medicine stops the growth of bacteria produced on the skin. The medicine is also useful for other infection including lung infection. It is also useful in reducing reddish appearance of acne lesions. It is generally recommended twice a day and can be taken with or without food. The medicine should be taken as prescribed by your doctor or medical health professional. If you do not observe any improvement in your condition, you should contact to your doctor. All antibiotics have some common side effects such as nausea, diarrhea and vomiting. Tetracycline may cause side effects including redness in skin, blistering, peeling or swelling. Erythromycin may cause some common side effects such as difficulty in breathing, swelling of neck and face or yellowness in the skin or eyes. |
