Androgen Hormone:
Once your doctor confirms that your acne is due to hormonal changes, he or she will prescribe hormone therapy for you. Although there are different hormone therapies, your doctor may decide which is most suitable for you. You should not initiate any of the hormone therapy yourself and the therapy should be done under the supervision of your doctor. It is a common practice and expert’s advice to use low-grade birth control pills or contraceptives to treat acne. Anti-androgen for controlling acne:
Estrogen and progestin for suppressing acne:
Carticosteroids for controlling acne:Another form of birth control pills is carticosteroids such as dexamethasone. A low dose of these medicines has been found useful in controlling the androgens produced by adrenal glands. These are most suitable when used in combination with other oral birth control pills, however in certain circumstances these may not be suitable and if taken can actually flare up the acne symptoms. |
