Aloe Vera and Immune SystemAloe Vera or true Aloe is a word that has its origins in the Arabic word meaning “shining bitter substance”. Aloe Vera has been in use for thousands of years as a medicine for various ailments. Its use for enhancing the immunity systems is of particular importance in the prevention of diseases. Aloe Vera provides support for the immune system. The substances in Aloe Vera help in activating and intensifying the immune response. The immune system is the body’s protector from diseases, and works continuously. Aloe Vera has natural immune enhancers that aid in this process. Drinking two to four ounces of Aloe Vera gel everyday will help the immune system to function better. Aloe Vera is useful in treating ailments of the skin as well as in the treatment of conditions caused by a disordered immune system. Asthma and some forms of Arthritis result from such conditions and can be treated effectively using Aloe Vera. In one study it was shown that white blood cells in horses, which were lowered after an illness was restored to normal levels after consumption of Aloe Vera. Studies by Carrington Laboratories have shown that Aloe Vera can improve the immune response. This quality is of great use in treating AIDS patients. Unfortunately it has been found also to retard the immune system’s response if taken in large quantities. This makes Aloe Vera an immunomodulator – a substance that can both enhance the immune system’s response as well as retard it. Aloe Vera’s capability to boost the immune system’s response to antigens promises to be of great use in fighting cancer. Certain substances in Aloe Vera have been found to have anti-cancer effects because of its effect on immunity systems. Aloe Vera does this by enhancing the immune system’s response to cancer by reducing the viral load and growing new and healthy cells. Treatment of cancer involves radiation and chemotherapy. These destroy the healthy cells in the body, particularly the immune system cells. Aloe Vera revitalizes the body and helps it to heal itself. It boosts the immune system and reduces the damage done to the body by conventional treatments. Immunotherapy is an important area in cancer research that proceeds on the theory that cancer is caused by the failure of the body’s immune system to fight the growth of abnormal cells. By strengthening the immune system Aloe Vera helps fight cancer. White blood cells are the most important constituent in the body’s immune system. When foreign particles are detected in the body white cells concentrate in the area. Aloe Vera contains a number of chemicals that aid in the process of fighting antigens or foreign particles in the body. Aloe Vera has opened up exciting possibilities in the treatment of the immune system when it is not functioning at its optimum capacity. The use of Aloe Vera for improving the immune system and thereby reducing diseases that result from deficiency in the immune system have been gaining currency. While final conclusions are yet to be reached, evidence shows that Aloe Vera is very effective in improving the immune system and curing the diseases that result from a deficient immune system. |
