Blow Drying Hair

You don’t have to go to a salon to get your hair blow dried. With the right tools and technique, you can achieve the look available at salons, right from the comfort of your own home.

Procedure for blow drying your hair

  1. Untangle your hair. Use a wide toothed comb on damp hair, and gently detangle the hair. Allow you hair to air-dry for the most part.
  2. If your hair seems to be wavy or curly in some parts, apply a straightening balm or gel.
  3. Section your hair horizontally to make it easier to work with.
  4. Pick a section that you want to work with first. Pin up the remaining sections of hair to keep them out of the way.
  5. Divide your chosen section into 4 parts depending on the thickness and length.
  6. Choose a brush. Metallic brushes are usually best for efficient blow-drying. Try to pick a metallic round brush.
  7. Hold the brush in one hand, and the dryer in the other.
  8. Choose one of the 4 parts that you had divided your free hair into. Direct the airflow down the hair shaft, and move both the brush and the blow-dryer vertically.
  9. Repeat the same for all remaining sections of the free hair, until   they are smooth and dry. You can use a large round brush to give a smooth finish with volume. If your hair is long, you can use a paddle brush for finishing.
  10. Remove a new section from the hair that you had clamped to the top of your head. Allow this to fall loose. Re-clamp the remaining sections. Follow the drying procedure carried out with the first part for all remaining sections of hair.
  11. Style as you wish, and then spray to hold.

Things to remember for blow drying your hair

Try to get a light hair dryer, since holding your arms over your head continuously can be tiring, and a heavy hair dryer will only add to the discomfort.

Always keep your hair or hair dryer moving while drying your hair. This is to prevent heat damage which could result from one section of your hair being exposed to intense, sustained heat from hair dryers.

Do not rub your hair with a towel. This can make your hair break or snap, since it can get caught on the fibres.

Always use good a good-quality shampoo, conditioner and styling products. If your hair is conditioned and moisturized well, then you can blow-dry it without any fears. Happy styling!
