Emo Hair Style: Boys and Girl

There are many people who are familiar with this type of styling even if they are not aware of what it is called.  Emo Hair style first came on to the scene in the early 1980’s and was spurred on by the music and entertainment industry.  It has risen and fallen in popularity, but has never really been considered out of style by anyone who has any authority.  There are a few things that define Emo Hair styles however.

Color

There is much debate in hair styling circles as to whether the Emo hair style must be a specific color.  Some will say that it must be jet black in the front with blonde in the back.  There are others that will say that color does not matter at all, but rather how the hair is styled. Many varieties of coloring can be seen and often multi colored layering will often be found.  One thing that is clear in any debate about coloring is that in order to claim Emo hair style, your hair must not be your natural color.  In any case, the original coloring of an Emo hair style was indeed jet black hair.

Style (Front)
Emo hair styles can be sported by either men or women.  They are essentially the same style.  In either case, the bangs are grown long so that they will partially cover the face.  This means that those who have the Emo hair style will often be pushing their hair out of their eyes.  It is also important that the hair be straight, not curly or waving.  The hair should cover the face on one side and frame the face on the other side.

Style (Back)

Like the coloring of an Emo hairstyle, the style of the back is also up for much debate.  Some will shave the back so that the only long part of their hair style is the front bangs.  Others will have the back short, but not buzzed.  There have been many variations on this, one being the spiky bed head look.  One thing they do have in common, however, is that all hair is fairly short.  If you have long bangs and long hair in the back, it is not an Emo hair style.

To gel or not to gel?

Again, this is a topic for much debate (are you sensing a theme here?).  Some prefer the more natural look, where the hair will fall down over the face and flow back and forth.  Clearly this does not require gel.  Those who are more “hardcore” about the Emo hair style will gel their bangs so that they stay firmly in place.

Dress

Having an Emo hair style is not just about the hair.  There is an entire mentality and persona that goes along with it.  More often than not, you will find that those with Emo hairstyles have bent the rules of gender or fashion in some way.  Guys will be wearing clothes that are fitted for girls or the other way around.  One very common thing in this style is for both sexes to be wearing eye liner or some other sort of make-up.  Often times clothing worn will be darker in tone and in color.

There are many opinions on the Emo hair style and all who have attempted this style will have their piece to share about the validity of their “style”.  But there are a couple of common factors.  One is that the hair cannot be the natural color of the person and the other is that the hair must be short, not buzzed, but definitely short.

Whats the big deal? its all just fashion. you can be "emo" in some overalls. It all has to do with how "YOU" feel. It's typical to associate emo with cutting but there are more people dying from cutting their wrist than emo kids dying. Oh! Is that new news to you? Well instead of being stereotypical assclowns try to look more in to the mind set of an emo kid... I'M EMO!

Not all "emo" hair is short in the back or general. Mine's long going past my shoulders a little and it looks fine. And preppy girls need to stop taking all the "emo" / "alternative" guys away and stick with their preppy guys.

why does anyone care if emo people wanna be emo let them no biggie.Preppy isnt for everyone. and emo is more of a style then a mood just becuase you dress that way doesnt mean you autmatically slit your wrists. besides being preppy is to much you have to live up to to many standard and care about what everyone thinks and if someone wears a shirt that you have OMG its such a big deal. with emo its more laid back and when you see someone with the same band tee on or something it just shows your into common things

yannoemo isnt "ohh i slit my freakin wrists all day. and i mope about." emo is being EMOTIONAL. like say, happiness is an emotion. like emo and cutter and goth are all different. emo and cutter and goth tend to have more of an original tendancy and the preps are uniform. flowy hair, tanned skin, pastel polos, anything abercrombie. yanno? i think u can have ur opinion (logan)but u shouldnt trash on the internet because people will just hate on you. and also, i did love this "emo" style guide but i have to say that emos will find their own way and style how they want to. there arent any guidelines to emo.
