Hair Rinse and Washing Tips

Hair Rinse and Washing Tips

Most people get their showers each morning before heading off to work. However, for certain hair styles this may not be the best thing for healthy hair. Some hair styles can become dry, brittle and frizzy if they are over washed. So how often should you wash your hair to get the best results?

When To Wash

Those with fine and thin hair or any of the short hair styles will likely benefit from a daily hair rinse. If fine hair is left unwashed for too long it is likely to become flat and greasy looking because of the natural oils on the scalp. Short hair is also likely to become greasy very quickly. With every shower it is best to pick a gentle shampoo and then follow it with a light conditioner and in some cases a detangler.

For those with long, thick, curly hair or any combination of these then it is best to wash two or three times a week. These hair types will become dry on the ends very easily. This is because of the natural oils on the scalp that moisturize the hair take a long time to travel to the ends and are often washed away before they can reach the ends. These natural oils stand a better chance of lubricating and conditioning the hair if you wait a day in between shampoos. When you don’t wash your hair it is best to dry style your hair or rinse it with warm water, condition and then dry style as usual. It is best to use a moisturizing shampoo and conditioner.

If you have very dry, kinky, African-American and/or chemically processed hair then it is a good idea to do a hair rinse at least one to two times a week. These types of hair are naturally very porous which means they are very dry and can be severely damaged by perming solutions, straighteners or colorings. As little washing as possible will help these hair types, plus every week you should use heavy conditioning packs. It is best to use a shampoo that is specifically formulated for chemically processed or African-American hair which provides more moisture and is gentler on the hair than regular shampoos. You should follow the shampoo with a thick conditioner.

Hair Rinsing Tips

Although washing and rinsing your hair seems like an easy task, there is several ways that it can go wrong and you could end up damaging your hair if you don’t properly washing and condition it. Following a few simple guidelines will allow you to keep your hair both clean, shiny and healthy.

Make sure you purchase a shampoo that is specifically formulated for your hair type. If you have several different hair types in your household then you should purchase several different types of shampoo. It is important to select and use the right type of shampoo for your hair.

It is also a good idea to use a conditioner. There are regular wash-in conditioners and the leave in spray conditioners. Once you have rinsed your hair it is best to towel and air dry if possible since blow drying can cause breakage to the ends of the hair. In addition to cutting out blow drying, trimming the split ends from your hair will drastically change the appearance of your hair. To give your hair a satin look it is best to brush it with a hundred strokes once it is completely dry. Brushing your hair while it is still wet can cause additional damage.

Doing these tips on a regular basis will allow you to see benefits to the look and feel of your hair within a few weeks. You hair will shin with a beautiful and bouncing appearance. It is also a good idea to alternate your shampoos periodically to keep your hair looking fresh and beautiful.
