Split Ends Help - Getting rid of split ends

Split ends are a common hair problem that is a difficulty for countless people. Split ends are typically found in people with long hair although some people with shorter hair can have split ends if the conditioning isn’t right. However, split ends can be solved with good hair maintenance.
Split ends occur when the protective cuticle is stripped away from the end fibers of the hair. They are most likely to happen in people with dry or brittle hair and are typically caused by damaged that includes excessive dying or vigorous brushing.
Once the cuticle is removed from the hair, it cannot be replaced. Usually the hair will split into two or three separate strands and they can be as long as two to three centimeters in length. Once of the easiest and best treatments is to cut off the split end and get rid of the damaged fiber.
As your hair grows, the oils from the scalp may not be able to reach the ends of your hair. This makes the ends of the hair more vulnerable to damage than the roots of the hair.
In addition, the ends of hair have the most exposure to the sun and go through many shampoos. They are also overheated by hair dryers and straighteners, which causes dry and brittle hair that is prone to splitting.
If you do not trim, your hair regularly this can also lead to split ends. Prevention is often the best way to help split ends rather than trying to fix them once they’ve occurred.
Coloring can also cause split end damage. Like blow drying and straightening, coloring can cause dry, brittle ends. In addition, poor quality brushes and combs may cause damage to your hair that will result in split ends.
While this doesn’t mean you have to head to the salon every week to prevent you split ends there are easier ways to end your split end problems by stopping them before they start.
If you don’t need a complete restyle of your hair then consider a do it yourself trim to freshen up your hair until the next time you go to the salon. However, if you don’t feel comfortable trimming your own hair then you should probably have someone else do it.
To remove your split ends take small sections of your hair and gently twist them in a downward motion. This will cause the split ends to stick out from the rest of the hair. Then carefully cut into the twist with sharp scissors. Don’t cut straight through rather cut into the thickness to remove the damaged cuticles and give a natural layered effect to your hair. Don’t cut the same amount from each twist.
To get rid of split ends you also have the option of using specialist products that are designed to seal the split ends temporarily so you don’t have to cut any split ends that are shorter than the length you want to cut your hair and allow your hair to grow a little longer before you trim it.
Another option is to have a deep conditioning treatment done every week. This is best if your hair is especially prone to split ends, if you chemically treat your hair, or if you use ceramic straighteners. Conditioning is also necessary whenever you are going to have a chemical.
Avoid as much excess heat, brushing and combing of your hair. Also, don’t brush, scratch or shampoo your hair or scalp before a chemical service. It is also best to invest in a quality comb or bristle brush to improve you hair quality.
After any form of exercise, you should shampoo your hair. The salt from your sweat will erode your hair. If you work out more than once a week, you should consult a hair stylist regarding your special needs.
