Vitamin Herbs for Hair Growth

Types of Herbs for Hair Loss

Genetics, medical treatments, skin allergies, excessive stress, poor nutrition, hormonal changes, thyroid problems, immune disorders and psychological disorders are the wide and many causes of hair loss today. Modern medicine has provided individuals with almost as many treatment options as there are causes. Medications such as minoxidil and corticosteroids are one form of treatment but there is a full range of options ending in surgical hair transplant which can be quite costly. However, there are some preventive measures and supplements you can try now even if you don’t yet have thinning hair.

The health of the scalp plays a large role in the growth of our hair. The hair follicles on our scalp are nourished by a plentiful supply of nutrient rich blood. Therefore, healthy hair growth is dependent on eating meals that are nutritionally balanced. Diets that are rich in proteins, good carbohydrates and essential fats will help maintain good hair growth. Vitamin or mineral imbalances are easily sensed by the hair follicles. Too little Vitamin A will cause a flaky scalp while hair loss is the result of too much Vitamin A. Premature hair loss can be prevented with herbs for hair taken in proper dosage as recommended by your doctor or nutritionist.

You can get strong and healthy hair from Omega 3 fatty acids. Two herbs that are rich in this are evening primrose oil and flaxseed oil. Evening primrose oil has a fat known as gamma-linolenic acid which can be effective against skin allergies since it acts as an anti-inflammatory. Hair loss that is caused by flaking of the scalp can be prevented by taking a thousand mg three times a day of this oil.

A substance called lignans is found in flaxseed oil which helps fight against cancer, bacteria, viruses and fungi. Scalp lesions that lead to hair loss are healed faster with flaxseed oil. It also helps promote healthy hair and nails. Flaxseed oil should be taken once a day at fourteen grams.

Hair loss caused by thyroid conditions can be helped by taking thirty mg of zinc a day which will help boost under active thyroids. In order to have proper mineral balance in your body you should always take two mg a day of copper along with the zinc. Copper is also very helpful in delaying premature graying since it contains melanin which is a pigment that provides color to both hair and skin. The levels of androgens are also effected with zinc which means it can help fight against some types of genetic hair loss.

Hair can be strengthened while reducing oiliness and flakiness by taking biotin and Vitamin B-50 complex. Biotin should be taken at a thousand mg a day and one tablet of Vitamin B-50 complex should be taken twice a day.

In addition to herbs for hair loss there are activities you can do as well. Blood flow can be stimulated with a weekly scalp massage which can also help reduce stress. These are two big factors in hair loss. It is also a good idea to avoid hair treatments that are abrasive such as coloring or perms. To protect your hair and scalp from sun damage you should wear a hat when you are outdoors.
