I contracted amoebaisis in March 2005, in the Philippines, and was prescribed metronidazole 500g, but had to stop taking the tablets temporarily when I began experiencing some nasty neurological effects, drop in body temperature, and semi-consciousness that left me needing urgent attention at the hospital in Davao; I don't know if it was the medication or the illness (I also suffered sudden waves of depression). I have to say, this was a nasty illness, although amoeba is often a mild infection that causes diarrhoea and can be treated easily. My recommendation is, never let it go untreated, as it can be fatal.

I had amoeba diagnosed some three weeks back but due to a previous experience of the bad taste and reaction to Flagil, I postponed taking the medicine for another week. Wait until I got a terrible feeling of swollenness and got the information that my directors' friend has died of Amoeba the same week! I have never been this faithful to my metronidazole and trinidazole before! I have just completed the dose and feeling a little better!

I CONTRACTED AMOEBAISIS WHILST HOLIDAYING IN EYGPT, FIRST SYMPTOMS WERE STOMACH CRAMPS THEN FOLLOWED BY SEVERE DIARRHOEA.I NEVER SUFFERED VOMITING, ALTHOUGH FEELING SICK, THIS CARRIED ON FOR 7 DAYS UNTIL I RETURNED BACK HOME TO ENGLAND.I THEN VISITED MY DOCTOR AS MY FAECES LOOKED VERY DIFFERENT I.E. My daughter is 5 months old and after a day of diarrhoea, I got her stool examined and found that she has amoebaisis. Though she still eats well, but she would often wake up, crying at night. Maybe her tummy aches. I have never thought that this is more of a gastroenteritis. I thought it is just like diarrhoea with amoeba involved in it. I hope the page would suggest how to manage the disease in terms of pain relief. Thank you.
