CausesIf your dysplastic nevi has turned to cancer then there are several reasons why that might have occurred.
If you have an impaired immune system then you are more likely to have the dysplastic nevi on your body become skin cancer as well. The immune system in your body can fight off cancer causing cells to some degree but not always and when your immune system is impaired then the chances increase of getting cancer many times over. Contact with certain chemicals is also known to turn dysplastic nevi to skin cancer in a rapid progression. Researchers have identified many chemicals that are known to cause cancer and the people have worked to ban these chemicals at all costs. There are still many known chemicals that are available on the market the can cause cancer so you should always be careful when dealing with any solution. SymptomsSymptoms of dysplastic nevi that have turned to skin cancer vary by patient but some are very easy to identify. If you notice any changes to the dysplastic nevi it is best to contact your doctor immediately and have testing done. Look for a dysplastic nevi that appears different from the others on your body. The uniformity of the lesions is the best sign. If for any reason you doubt on of them do not hesitate to contact your doctor. Check the borders of the dyplastic nevi that affect your body. If they have overly irregular borders outside of the norm for them then you should contact your doctor right away. Pain and itching may also occur when a dysplastic nevi has turned to skin cancer. This can also occur when a new dysplastic nevi appears on the body. Always be sure to tell your doctor that you have a new dysplastic nevi and it needs to be checked. The color changes that can occur in a dysplastic nevi are a common indicator of skin cancer. The dysplastic nevi will already have non uniform color but if the colors change drastically then you should seek medical attention soon. TreatmentsThe treatment for a dysplastic nevi that has turned to skin cancer can vary depending on the area where the dysplastic nevi occurs. Most often your doctor will opt for surgery to remove the affected area. This will depend on the area where the dysplastic nevi appears. If the area is easily accessible then the doctor should have no trouble removing the lesion with a simple incision. The surgery is relatively pain free with only minor discomfort occurring in patients after the local has worn off. In most cases the doctor will not be required to put you completely under but instead administer a local that will numb the affected area. In cases where the dysplastic nevi appears in an area that is more dangerous then the doctor may consider other therapies to combat the spread of the cancer. Radiation therapy is most common in these cases. The amount of sessions required is small in comparison to other forms of cancer it consists of a small beam aimed directly at the lesion to kill the cells that are affecting the area. Check with your doctor about the treatment options that are best for you. |
