Home :: Skin Disorders :: Hyperhidrosis Hyperhidrosis Research Solution ForumsHyperhidrosis is a disorder that affects how much a person sweats. The disorder is genetic by nature and people who suffer from it find themselves sweating profusely from their hands, feet and underarms. Causes of HyperhidrosisThe main cause of Hyperhidrosis is hyperactivity in the nervous system. The genetics of the disorder have yet to be completely figured out but there is much progress being made in the area of study on this disease. What few people realize is that there are no outside determining factors when the cause of the sweating is Hyperhidrosis. While many people will sweat when in an uncomfortable situation, this has no bearing on sufferers of this disease. The onset is purely genetic and has nothing to do with a persons lifestyle or environment. Persons suffering from this disorder will still react to high stress situations the same way as the rest of us, but their sweating is not controllable to any degree. Once it is turned on, there is no stopping it. Symptoms of HyperhidrosisThe symptoms of Hyperhidrosis are simply sweating and very much at that. There are no other physical manifestations that are associated with this disorder. Persons afflicted find themselves sweating from the hands and feet and the sweating will not stop. There are certain medical benefits that come with sweating but those are not a factor when dealing with this disorder. When the sweating starts it has been known to last for twenty four hours or more. The body losing that much fluid can have severe effects on the systems contained therein. Persons who find themselves sweating for long periods of time are encouraged to continually hydrate themselves with fluids such as water. The body is losing a lot of water in a short period of time and it is best to keep the fluids moving back into the body even thought you may feel that they are not hanging around long. There are certain emotional symptoms that come with Hyperhidrosis as well. Most sufferers go through a mild form of depression that restricts them from leaving their homes lest they be seen sweating in public. The stigma that comes with excessive sweating bears the brunt of the force from this depression as people view it as they look guilty when they sweat too much. There is nothing to this myth as people should learn to control the anxiety that is associated with this disease. Diagnosis for HyperhidrosisWhen having your Hyperhidrosis diagnosed it is important to explain to your doctor that the severity of the sweating is not in line with the norm. Many times a doctor will right off excessive sweating and attribute it to a lifestyle issue instead of a medical condition. Even though it may be embarrassing, you will need to get across to your doctor that this is not a normal occurrence for you and then make them listen. Treatment for HyperhidrosisThere are many non surgical treatments available for Hyperhidrosis. The first thing that a doctor will need to determine is the severity of the condition that you have. This will require some tests being run but they are generally non invasive and non painful as well. Once the severity is determined then the doctor will sit down with you and discuss the possibilities for treatment that are available to you. The most common is Botox. While this is more commonly used for cosmetic upgrades, it has also proved itself as a great treatment for this condition. There are also several topical treatments that have shown promise in some of the recent clinical trials. These are not widely in practice as yet. In any case the disorder that is Hyperhidrosis is completely curable in most cases. The sufferers of this disease no longer need to hide from the public anymore. You should contact your doctor as soon as possible to start setting up an appointment for treatment options. Do not delay as the treatments may take several weeks to be effective. |
