Description of Orbital Cellulitis

hi

Orbital Cellulitis is very common to another eye infection that is called Preseptal Cellulits. It is common to get the same symptoms such as swollen eyelids and also red eyes. However when a patient has Preseptal Cellulits the patient can still freely move their eye without feeling any pain. But if the patient has Orbital Cellulitis then they will find that they cannot move their eye due to the pain that they experience. The patient may also experience blurred or double vision. They can even experience a headache and a fever. If the patient has an unusual pupil reaction then it is highly likely that the patient has Orbital Cellulitis. A CAT scan may be required to help fully diagnose the problem, but it has been known that if a foreign body enters the eye then it can cause the same kind of symptoms as Orbital Cellulitis.

Vulnerable patients

It seems that anyone can become a victim of Orbital Cellulitis.
Anyone can contract this eye infection no matter what your age or gender. There is no one age group or gender that contracts this eye infection more then any other age group or gender. If you do contract Orbital Cellulitis then you are one of the unlucky people that do contract this eye infection. There is nothing wrong with your age or gender you are just unlucky.

Symptoms of Orbital Cellulitis

The symptoms that might appear if you have Orbital Cellulitis are, blurred or double vision a fever and sometimes a red eye might appear on the patient. When the doctor examines the patient, the doctor will check to see if the eye is more forward then the other eye. Also the doctor will check to see if the patient has a strange pupil reaction. All these symptoms will confirm that the patient has Orbital Cellulitis. Of course it is always best to let the doctor check to see the problem so that they can then diagnose it properly.

Diagnosis

There are a couple of ways to diagnose Orbital Cellulitis. Many doctors can diagnose it just by checking the patient’s eye socket as well as the pupil. However there are some doctors that do not want to confuse this with a different eye infection, a wrong diagnosis can cause some severe problems for the patient because Orbital Cellulitis needs to be treated correctly and also as quickly as possible. If the doctor is unsure about his own diagnosis then the patient might be sent for a CAT scan. This can then help the doctor to make the right diagnosis for the patient.

Treatment for Orbital Cellulitis

Treatment for Orbital Cellulitis is available but it will depend on the severity of the eye infection. If it has gotten to a stage where normal oral antibiotics will not help, then the patient will be sent to hospital, where they can then administer a stronger dose of antibiotics to mainly help with the swelling as well as the vast amount of pain that the patient will usually be in. Many patients who have experienced Orbital Cellulitis have gone to the doctor straight away to get a diagnosis. But others have waited for longer and this then meant that an immediate trip to the hospital was required. When the patient is discharged from hospital they will still be required to complete a full course of antibiotics.

Prognosis

Patients that have suffered from Orbital Cellulitis have known to fully recover most of the time. There have been cases when this eye infection actually formed into meningitis. This can happen if you do not have a follow up appointment with your doctor. You must have a few follow up appointments as this will then help the doctor to decide if your eye infection might form into meningitis. If it does then you will have a smaller chance of survival, especially if you do contract meningitis A that is the worst type of meningitis. But the chances of contract meningitis will be slim if you are careful.

Summary of Orbital Cellulitis

Orbital Cellulitis is a horrible eye infection and one that should not be experienced by anyone. If you do experience Orbital Cellulitis then you will know just hoe severe this eye infection is if you do not seek immediate medical help. Your doctor will be able to prescribe you with a course of antibiotics that you must finish. But if you go to the doctor too late then you will probably have to visit the hospital instead of going home.
