Who can get them?Anyone can develop Schamberg’s Disease. It seems to be more common in males than in females, and it can occur in children and adults alike. What can cause them?Schamberg’s Disease occurs when a person has a leaky blood vessel wall which then allows red blood cells to get into the skin. These red blood cells then fall apart and release their iron which is rust in color that is what gives the rash its orange coloration. They are some cases, where a medication could be the culprit, if so your doctor can discontinue their use and see if the skin aliment improves. How does it happen?Schamberg’s Disease happens when blood leaks from the vessels close to the skin’s surface. There is also some evidence that shows that this happens due to a reaction to a medication a person might be taking or an allergic reaction to food, clothes, or other artificial coloring agents. Where do they appear?Schamberg’s Disease starts off by affecting the legs and often spreads from there. However, it may occur anywhere on the body, including the hands. They can also vary in the numbers that appear. It will usually appear on both sides of the affected area, and its distribution is not regular. What are the symptoms for Schamberg’s Disease?Schamberg’s Disease does not have a variety of symptoms. It includes the discoloration of the skin that appears usually on the lower part of the body. At times it may be itchy to person inflicted with this disease. In some rare instances, a person may experience some pain. How can it be diagnosed?A doctor or dermatologist can confirm Schamberg’s Disease by conducting a skin biopsy. This involves taking a sample of the affected area and examining it under a microscope. This is done to rule out other forms of purpura. What treatments are available?There is no cure for Schamberg’s Disease. These patches can continue to appear for many years. If the area is itchy, an individual will need to apply a cortisone cream to the affected area. In some rare cases, a doctor may prescribe some other types of medications to help with blood circulation. In some cases, taking vitamins such as Vitamin C has also been found to help some individuals. In some cases, your doctor may recommend that you change your diet. They may advice you to stay away form food that have preservatives and artificial coloring agents in them. If this skin disorder does not improve, then you can probably go back to your normal diet. If only a few patches appear, the doctor may recommend you wearing support hosiery, since it might also be due to abnormal vein function. They are currently some laser treatments that are being considered, but none of them are a definite part of the treatment of Schmaberg’s Disease at this time. Schamberg’s Disease is a common skin aliment. It is one that causes more of a cosmetic problem for the individual inflicted than a health one. The discoloration that appears while they are flat, and smooth, does look like cayenne pepper spots and these can be unpleasant for a person to view. While in most cases these are simple and non life threatening aliments, if can skin aliment is uncomfortable it is important to speak to your doctor and try and relieve some of those symptoms. |
