Niz | Makeup | Wednesday, 22 June 2005

A simple way to determine whether or not you may be allergic to a certain cosmetic: dampen an area of skin along your inner arm with tepid water. Apply the cosmetic you think you might be allergic to and leave it in place for 24 hours. If, after this length of time, there is some reaction, i.e. itchiness or redness, this indicates that your skin may be allergic to this cosmetic.

A good Relaxing Bath

Niz | Beauty | Monday, 20 June 2005

Here is a method to relax yourself having a good bath. Just lie down in the tub and relax. Burn an aromatherapy candle in the bathroom, away from any potential fire hazards. Immerse yourself in a good book or magazine. Play soft and tranquil music in the background. Treat yourself to a plate of healthy snacks - frozen grapes, vegetable sticks, apple sauce, pudding or yoghurt. Close your eyes and daydream, but be careful not to fall asleep. Wrap yourself in a fluffy towel at the conclusion of your bath.
Hope you enjoy the above relaxing bath.

Greasy Skin

Niz | Beauty | Thursday, 16 June 2005

A greasy skin looks shiny, thick, and dull colored. The sebaceous glands produce more oil than is needed, thus making the face greasy and enlarging the pores. It often has blackheads and is prone to acne. Greasy skin requires more cleansing than other skins. Grease tends to pick up dirt and grime which clog the pores and produce blackheads.

Wash the face in the morning, at mid-day and at night before going to sleep, with facial cleanser and water. In the evening remove all traces of makeup with a cleansing cream. Use a mild skin tonic. The toning will improve the circulation and the texture of the skin. Moisturizing a greasy skin is not essential, but you may use a non-greasy moisturizer only in the day.

Acne Myth

Niz | Skin Disorders | Saturday, 04 June 2005

Contrary to common belief, acne sufferers shouldn’t be worried about what they shouldn’t eat (for example, chocolate!) - they should focus instead on foods that can help their skin. Studies have shown that dark green vegetables such as spinach are dietary musts for people plagued by pimples and blackheads, since they are full of antioxidants that reduce inflammation and neutralise cell-damaging agents. Try to get five or six servings of leafy greens per week plus a daily serving of orange veggies such as carrots, pumpkin and peppers, which are rich in beta-carotene, a compound that converts into vitamin A in the body and heals damaged skin tissue.
