Dentures: Information and TypesDentures are also called set of artificial teeth that can be used by the wearer to replace the missed teeth. Dental planes or dentures are used by the patients on the mandibulary arch. As man grows older, he loses teeth as a result of many factors that include malnutrition, genital factors or poor diet. Sometimes it is a oral hygienic problem too. Dentures are artificial teeth used by those who don’t have teeth. The dentures are used to regain the lost smile, good appearance and good chewing ability. It helps the wearer improve his appearance and look as well. Two Types of Dentures
Not everyone loses all the teeth. A few lose all the teeth and some loses only a few. Removable partial dentures are suggested for the patients who have missed only a few teeth on an arch. Fixed partial dentures are bridges and crowns to fill the gap of the missing teeth and this type of dentures are highly expensive. If all the teeth are missed, people use complete dentures nowadays. These dentures look like the natural teeth and people wear them without any discomfort. Since fifteenth century, practice of replacing missed teeth with the dentures has bee followed. In olden days, the specialists had made dentures from bones and ivory taken from the dead bodies and also from the living souls who volunteered to give teeth or bones. But medical facility was not much improved those days and the dentures were not lasting for long time and they began to rot very soon. The first porcelain dentures were introduced in the year 1770 and they were designed by Alexis Duchateau. From the beginning man is using mouth for taking food and brain senses anything that comes new inside mouth as a food particle and starts secreting saliva. Similarly the fixed dentures too are mistaken by brain as food appliances and it secrets excessive quantity of saliva and moreover the rubbing and pressing on the mucosa will cause sore spots too. If the wearer or get used to the dentures, the adjustments will be made. Out of conscious, wearer may sometime choke or disturb the dentures and it is a kind of psychological denial to curtail the adjustment process. If the patient is able to give support, stability and retention are the three rules that control the existence of removal oral appliances. |
