Head Louse: Know Something About Your EnemyHead Louse is a parasite that is found on human head. It moves fast on head and is found on neck, scalp, back of ear etc. It is very irritating and depressing problem. Scientifically, louse is called Pediculus Humanus Capitisl. It looks like an ant. It has six legs in front. It has head, thorax and abdomen. It may differ in color. Grey, tan and black are different egg colors that are found in head louse. It lays eggs for about a month, every day five to seven eggs on an average are laid. Thus this problem will increase if not taken care. Each egg would hatch in nine days. Some eggs dry out and die and look like dandruff. There are three stages in life span of a head louse. Nit, Nymph and adult are the three stages. Nit is an egg and takes about seven to nine days to hatch. Nymph is tiny but looks like an adult one. Its main food is blood, which it gets from head scalp. Females look bigger than males. In a week, nymph becomes an adult. Blood is the food for head louse. If they fall off the scalp, they die. If they crawl to other person’s head, it lives. It lays eggs on things that feel to them like hair. That’s why they are found even on soft toys that are dark in colors. Head louse is very contagious. It spreads very fast. It can crawl from one person’s head to another. Head louse can be caused mainly in schools, sports center, etc. It is mainly found among children. But can also happen to adults who may get it from children in their home. It is mainly found on head scalp, neck, behind ears. It is mostly found in dampened scalp. Dirt, oil and sweat entertain lice. If your scalp skin is exposed to sun, if you keep your head scalp and hair clean by shampooing regularly, you will be prevented from head louse. This is a highly contagious parasite. It will make you feel depressed and irritated. |
