Human Head Louse: Unique Characteristics

Human head louse are found on human heads. Human beings who suffer from head louse will keep on scratching their head due to constant itch that it gets from lice. You will be surprised to know that louse on human heads and that found on animal body are different. They are completely different in characteristics. They have different physical characteristics, different living condition and environments.

First, let us discuss the louse found on human heads. Human beings who have damp, humid and dirty scalp may get this problem. The louse is brown in color. It has six legs attached to its head. It has different inverted claws. It will get a good grip to walk along the hair follicles. They bite humans and live on the blood derived from scalp skin. If you do not take care of your scalp and hair, you may be infested with head louse. Oily and humid hairs, this is the environment they look for. A female head louse lays around 50 eggs per day. This process she continues till some days. Then after some days, the eggs are hatched. The nits become nymphs and crawl like adult lice on your scalp. Thus this process will help the lice to multiply. You can see them sometimes on your neck or behind the ears. They are wingless.

However the louse found on animal body are flat in shape. They are brownish-red in color. They walk on skin of an animal. It can jump and thus cannot be caught easily.

Both head louse and animal louse can only survive in the area in which they are supposed to be. If human head louse fall off, on something else, except human head, it will die. Same is the case of animal louse. It has to get that type of environment to continue living.
