What Head Lice and Nits Look Like?

You or your child has got the problem of head louse. Do you want to know what louse and nits look like? These are parasites that live on your scalp and crawl along your hair. It lives on your blood. Nits will be confused with dandruff in the first instance. You will feel that it is not that serious. Please give it another glance. If it is attached to your hair that is near the scalp skin and are not easily removed when try to be picked then your problems are going to start, as these are nits, eggs of lice.

It is slight oblong and has six legs attached near the head. It has three body parts mainly comprising of head, thorax and abdomen. It is of our hair color, brownish or blackish. They have the tendency to crawl along the scalp. Head louse mainly reside on oily and sweaty scalp. It likes to breed in dirt. It mainly likes to live on smooth hair. It can crawl easily with a grip.

Head lice are transferable from one person to another due to crawling. It is different from animal louse, which is flat in shape and runs on animal skin. So head lice should not be confused with animal lice.

A female louse lays nearly fifty eggs and once she starts laying eggs, it continues for some days. The nits remain stubbornly attached to hair near hair follicles of scalp. This provides a suitable warm environment. After some days, nits are hatched. Thus lice multiply fast. Lice cannot live anywhere else except for human scalp. If it falls anywhere else it dies.
