Curettage and Cautery - What is It?

The world of medical expansion, where a person looks likes Heidi Klum just by the help of liposuction. Now we have an answer to ghastly diseases like Cancer and AIDS from which people were dying since recently.

Thanks to medical invasion cure to any thing is just a phone call away. But with the rise in medical technology we also observe the rise in diseases. These days’ people suffer from the kind of diseases, which were unknown of and unheard of since few years ago.

You can find that for a person to recover from Typhoid takes hardly a week whereas some years back we could find people dying from diseases like typhoid and jaundice.

In newspapers you will come through lot of advertisements where you find people going through various treatments for skin as well as cosmetic surgery to uplift their beauty or to purify their skin. One of the most commonly heard forms of surgery is Curettage.

The dictionary meaning of curettage is removal of tissue or growths from a body cavity; this cavity can be of any part like uterus. This process is done by scrapping the cavity with a curette. A curette is a scoop-shaped surgical instrument specifically designed to remove tissues and dead cavities from the body.

Now an interesting question arises in mind that why would a person want to take up this painful process and how does it take place. Curettage is a surgery to remove cavities and this is done with the help of cautery. Cautery is a process of removing dead cells and tissues by a hot instrument.

Many women all over the world undergo this surgery to cure the bleeding in the uterus. This process sometimes is useful in diagnosing whether a woman is suffering from the cancer of uterus or not as the cancer in uterus is a common thing for a woman who is undergoing a menopausal stage.

This surgery takes place with the help of dilatation, which means stretching the cervix, which is the constricted lower end of the uterus. This cervix is stretched with the help of surgical instruments.

After this process of stretching, a curette is inserted into the uterus and the cavities that have developed are removed. This whole method is called curettage. After this process, the line, which has been removed from the uterus, develops again during the next menstrual cycle, which follows the curettage.

Cautery is used nowadays to treat small wounds or scars. Cautery is also known as electro surgery. It is mainly used to treat a bleeding wound in nasal mucous membrane or to treat warts. This type of surgery is also used to treat a benign scar on any part of the body. This surgery is done by applying a hot rod over the wounds or by applying a caustic material like nitric acid over the wound.

These kinds of surgeries usually have no side effects except that they leave scars on the body. But with different kind of cosmetic surgeries taking over these scars can also be eliminated. But it is advisable to consult a dermatologist before undergoing any kind of surgery.
