Diathermy - Very Useful in Removing Muscle Pain

A number of people these days suffer from frequent muscle pains. Muscle pains mainly occur due to over stressing the ligaments and the muscles. Muscle pulls are also a reason for the severe muscle pain that many people undergo. Although exercising is very important, it should be done carefully and only after doing some warm up exercise.

The exercises that are taught in the gym for working out on any particular muscle of the body are always done after the warm up exercise. On sudden application of force or sudden tension created in the muscle a person may suffer from muscle pains.

There is a number of muscle relaxant that is available in the market these days. This muscle relaxant alleviates the muscle pain and is known to provide a soothing effect. Most of the muscle relaxant that is available in the market is the ointments that work on the principle of diathermy.

If taken the dictionary meaning of the word diathermy it comes out to be the heat, which is induced electrically, and can provide relaxation to the muscles. This property of heat produced electrically in the body is used to relax the muscles and alleviate the muscle pain.

Diathermy is used to remove the pain and help the muscle regain their normal shape quickly. Diathermy is obtained in a number of ways. In the ultrasound diathermy process the ultra sound waves with a wavelength greater than that of the audible sound is applied to head the tissues.

The ultrasound diathermia process is used when deep heating is required. In the diathermy processes the muscles are relaxed and it help recover from muscle pains. In the electrical diathermy techniques high frequency alternating current voltage is applied around the muscles that are to be healed.

This high frequency alternating current in the coils placed around the muscles induces heat in the muscles and acts as a muscle relaxant.

Diathermy also has surgical applications. As said before the electrical diathermy can induce heat in the muscles and can be used for deep heating the muscles. This technique is used for surgical purposes.

In the surgical process diathermy is used. When a high frequency alternating current is applied to the muscles, without any electrode contact with the skin the heating effect caused can be employed to heel wounds deep under the skin. The bleeding in the body can be stopped. Hence diathermy can be used in surgical processes to heal the wounds and to stop the bleeding.
