Laser Resurfacing - An Active Laser

Laser resurfacing, generally associated with skin resurfacing, is sometimes, known as laser peel. This process is a new procedure, which stands on the pillars of extensive technology. In the laser resurfacing, a laser of carbon dioxide used to peel the damaged and wrinkled skin. Lets say, layer after layer. This process is used to diminish the lines that appear near eyes and mouth. Moreover, it also serves as an effective tool in the treatment of facial scars, uneven pigmentation of skin and even acne.

Laser resurfacing, as such, is an upcoming process. It emerged in accordance with the increasing awareness about the way one looks and the advancement in technology. Duration of the laser procedure generally depends on the size of the area to be treated. The time duration may range from few minutes to many hours.

Sometimes, it takes two or more stages depending upon the depth of the imperfections. This process is generally undertaken under anesthesia. The amount of anesthesia again depends on the intensity of the surgery.

During the procedure, an active laser is carefully passed over the area affected, to minimize the scars or wrinkles to the best possible extent. After the treatment, a laser-surfacing doctor may advice the usage of healing creams or ointments for early recovery. Now days, a bandage is tied so as to refrain it from infections and unwanted particles.

Usually it takes 5-6 months to get back to the normal skin. The treated areas sometimes get over sensitive after the treatment and needed to be kept under the supervision of the surgeon. Extra care and time has to be devoted to get the wanted results.

It’s not always that a person achieves what he wants. Lasik resurfacing is not a child’s play. It takes into a whole lot of precautions, care, time and money into it. Not all people are suitable for laser resurfacing. The people who have gone through accutane nearly in 1-2 years earlier are more prone to skin infections and scarring. Individuals with brown or black skin are at the risk of pigmentation. However, laser resurfacing only enhances the looks by diminishing the imperfections, but making them disappear is out of its boundaries.

Well, moving towards its dark sides, one may have to repent on the decision of laser resurfacing. Risks and surgery always go hand in hand. One may have to experience burn marks, scars or other injuries due to the heat of laser lights. The pigmentation, irritating sensation and added reddishness of skin are common after effects of laser surgery.

Just few words of caution before going for laser resurfacing:

  • Make sure you are the right candidate for the right kind of surgery.
  • In depth study of the procedure helps to make correct decision
  • Study the track record of the surgeon before going for actual surgery
  • Take all the pre-surgery precautions with care.

Despite of its darker side, the trend and charm of laser resurfacing has been increasing tremendously. Nothing comes free, everything has a price tag with it and so has the laser resurfacing.
