What is The Need of Nail Surgery?

Better-looking nails are always important as they reflect your health and accurse your personality. A well experienced dermatologist is a must. Nails treatment falls in the category of skin treatment and hence again have to be taken up by the expert dermatologists.

The nail surgery might seem very simple but a great deal of expertise is required as if any damage to the nail matrix is done it may cause a permanent damage to the nail. It could be a permanent loss of nail or it could also cause the growth of abnormal or funny looking nail usually frequent ingrowths of the nails may ask for the need of nail surgery.

Sometimes the inflamed regions around the nail are also removed. Nail surgery is required when any section of the nail captures reaction or is bitten up to dust. Again in case of extreme allergy or skin cancer it is required that that particular section of the nail needs to be removed and operated upon.

What Is Nail Surgery?

This treatment is supposed to be a minor operation where two injections of anesthesia are given on the sides of the toe. Nail surgery is also called nail avulsion. When the anesthesia acts the toe becomes numb. Then a tight elastic band which is called a tourniquet is applied. There is no need of. Dissecting or re-stitching.

The inflated part is taken high with the scalpels and is then erased from that section of the nail.

The part of the nail which produces the actual hard nail is called the nail matrix. That portion is then provided chemical treatment with phenol which prevents further growth of the nail and hence the spread of the disease is prohibited. The diseased section is then removed.

A clear and smooth dressing is provided so as to protect it from the dirt and dust settling down on the nail and hence stopping any kind of reactions too. This procedure may take some time after the actual surgery is over. And the patient stays in anaesthesia for some time.

This above depicted procedure of nail treatment is indeed safe but one needs to stay empty stomach for long time before the surgery and there are several other things to be taken care of. If the nail is of the leg then even after surgery special kinds of sleepers or sandals are required which covers the feet as well as does not hurts you.

Walking should be avoided and lift should be preferred so as to provide comfort to the feet. The leg should be kept away from the water sources so as to avoid swelling and water pus in the infected and operated part. Rest is advisable but is not mandatory. And it does assist healing a lot.

Pain starts creeping up as the effect of anaesthesia calms down. Pain killers are required then but they should be taken to the minimum and avoided if possible. Aspirin is the best of all painkillers available and assists the rest and mental peace.
