Ultraviolet - The Harmful RaysUltraviolet rays or the UV rays as they are commonly termed as are one of the most highly penetration rays from sunlight. These rays can harm the human skin if the skin comes in direct contact to the ultraviolet rays. You might have hears that there has been a hole in the ozone layer from where ultraviolet radiations are entering the earths atmosphere and are resulting into global warming. These rays usually do not enter the earth’s atmosphere because of the shield do the ozone layer. But if our skin comes in direct contact with these rays then it can cause sever burns and prolonged contact may cause skin cancer also. But this is not the only fact about ultraviolet rays. These ultraviolet rays do not only cause harm to our skin but they are also nowadays being controlled and used for various treatment procedures. Thus these ultraviolet are not always harmful for our skin they can also be used in treating diseases but must be an expert in handling them because even a slight mistake can lead to large problems. These ultraviolet rays can be used to treat one of the most deadly diseases known as eczema. Thus if you are suffering from eczema then you can turn up to your doctor for ultraviolet treatment. Since these treatments are really costly thus only a few people are able to afford them. Also there is certain amount of risk involved in this type of eczema treatment. The patient is passed via an ultraviolet chamber and due to their high penetrating power these rays can penetrate inside the affected area. The treatment is really helpful for those patients who are suffering from eczema for a long time and are not getting results from any other source. Thus we say that it is good to get some direct sunlight so as to fulfill the need of the body for the required vitamins, but prolonged contact of sunlight can result in UV rays damaging the skin texture and sun burns can also occur in the meanwhile. Now lets understand via we suffer while sun bathing. The sunlight contains three types of UV rays namely the A, B and C. if we come in direct contact with UV A and UV B rays then it can lead to tanning effect on the skin or can also lead to sun burns. Well it depends on the type of skin the person has and the place on the earth where they are situated. Two persons may show different results on the same place. Also the effect of UV rays is maximized in summer season because this is the time when maximum amount of penetration occurs in the atmosphere. This is why Europeans do not suffer burns as is experienced by those living in the Middle East. The depletion of ozone has also caused heating up of earth’s atmosphere to a large extent. The prime source of this depletion is chlorofluorocarbons that are generated by refrigeration and the pollution caused by vehicles and industries. |
