| OTC means over the counter. Don't take Penicillin unless you have a ten-day prescription or you will just make all the bad bacteria in your body even stronger and less susceptible to treatment when it does cause infection! Also, you don't need to take an antibiotic for something as small as the stye. That's overkilling. Antibiotics should be used sparingly and as a last resort. They kill good bacteria in your body, not just the bad ones. Then your body needs a few days to get back to normal. If you are on an antibiotic, drink lots of water and eat yogurt to replace the "friendly flora" (or bacteria) in your digestive tract. But for a simple stye get the antibiotic ointment, Someone mentioned if you think you need it. The best way to chase it away fast is: 1) don't scratch or touch the infection (or any part of your eyes, preferably!) When or if you have to touch your eyes, do it with extremely clean hands (wash up with regular soap, nothing strong and rinse well so you don't burn your eye with residual chemicals left on your fingers. 2) And do the warm rag thing several times a day 3) drink lots of water. You are trying to flush the infection out. Just be patient. If you are at work, get some boiling water from the coffee maker, add a little cool water & take a small washcloth to work. Wash hands well, then wrap a corner of the rag around a finger, dip in the water, squeeze off the excess water and lightly press against the affected area. Do some light reading with your other eye or other easy tasks while you hold the rag in place until it cools. Then dip it again and repeat. Keeping it warm will speed healing and flush out the problem. If you are at home, lay down and hold it on your eye while you listen to music, etc. Before you know it, your stye will heal & you can get on with your life! But drinking lots of water and never touching your eyes with dirty hands or makeup will help you prevent future ones! (Also don't touch your eyes after handling your pets, or you can get uglier problems than a simple stye!) Also, if you have to go somewhere really important before the stye goes away, go as late as possible, leave as early as possible, and put your eye makeup on at the last minute & keep it simple (you'll probably rub off half of it, anyway!). Then take it off as soon as you leave. Good luck! | |

| My eye has swollen up so much, it looks like I have ptosis! It's not just a tiny bomb on my eyelid. It hurts and irritates. What's in the OTC stuff? | |

| It hurts! I don't know what to do! Some friends say tea bags, but I've heard other things! I have one on my lower right eye and one on the top eyelid of my left eye! Ouch! It hurts even when I blink! | |

| Soaking a towel in hot water and applying it as a compress to the eye works, it just takes time. Try not to wear make-up. Drops are sold OTC. They are called STYE. Speeds up the process. | |

| Its been a year now and I still have stye on my lower left eye. It feels like killing myself because I have tried all types of ointments and surgery too. But it still exists. Plz help me to get rid of it as my college is about to start. | |
